Welcome to Cwmdrysien Dexters

My wife and I live with our two children, Emily and Robert, in the New Forest National Park, UK.   We have kept Dexter cattle since January 2007 and are passionate about our animals and how they are reared.  We keep our Dexters in a traditional manner.  As such they are grass fed with home grown haylage for the winter.  We do not use grain or any feed additives to 'finish'.  When necessary, we use a few handfuls of cattle nuts to attract them into an enclosure for handling purposes, but other than that they are entirely grass fed.

Our calves stay with their mothers until around 8 to 9 months of age and we over-winter our animals mainly out of doors, using a barn and field shelter to protect from the worst of the weather.

We do not routinely use wormers or medicines except for vaccinating against diseases such as Bluetongue.   Any medicines we do use are to treat specific ailments as prescribed by our vet.

This site is intended to explain who we are and to provide further information in relation to Dexter cattle.  We hope you find the information contained interesting and useful.

We supply Dexter beef to a local New Forest butcher.  Further information is available by clicking on Dexter beef, or select Beef at the top of this page.
